Gospel-Centered
The Gospel is the center of all that we do at True North because it tells us the story of the Bible (Luke 24:35-41). The Gospel (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) is the completion of God's story. It tells us how God has made the wrongs of this world right through the life, ministry, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ. It is through Jesus' sacrifice that evil has been conquered, and it is continuing to be overthrown as Jesus, risen from death, sits enthroned as King of Heaven and Earth (Matthew 28:19-20).
The story of King Jesus propels us at True North to love all that we come into contact with. It is our responsibility to demonstrate what God's Kingdom looks like through our actions and our words. We want to live as Jesus lived and love as Jesus loved. This is our first and greatest conviction.
Spirit-Filled
At True North, we are Continuationists. That means we believe that God enacts his Kingdom through his people by healing the sick, speaking through them by supernatural means, and cleansing emotions or mental wounds (Luke 10:1-12)
We believe the heart of God is to bring about the Kingdom of God in the here and now, and yet we will not experience it fully until Christ returns in glory. So, though we may experience healing in the present time, that doesn't mean that everyone will be healed when we pray. It is still a mystery. However, we can be assured that God will heal all who place their trust in him on the last day for, as the apostle Paul says, “It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed. For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies.” (1 Corinthians 15:52-53 NLT)
Practical Spirituality
We believe that your spiritual journey is meant to be both an individual and community endeavor. We are people who need to have a relationship with God and with the people of God.
As an individual, it's important that you build a relationship with God, and we do that through daily prayer and devotions (Matthew 6:9-13). This is a time to reflect on who God has revealed himself to be through the Scriptures and to experience his goodness as he meets with you and tends to your needs.
However, your spiritual life is more than yourself. You were meant to experience deep and satisfying relationships with God's people. When you become a follower of Jesus, you become one of God's children and join a family (Ephesians 2:19). You are a part of something much bigger than yourself. That's why it's important to go to church. Church is where you come to worship God with others, where you learn more about God, and where you connect with your Heavenly Father and your spiritual brothers and sisters. We believe that the church is a home where you spend time with your family.
Outwardly Compassionate
The Gospel of the Kingdom is not just about inward healing, nor is it relegated to salvation or miracles. We believe that it affects everything we do. The Message of Jesus is one of love, and that love is meant to be demonstrated to all, especially the weakest and most vulnerable in our society (Luke 4:18-19).
At True North, we take seriously the hurts of others. It is our commitment to love those within our city and towns around us by serving them with our actions, our prayers, and our finances. We are a people of action that love our neighbors as we love ourselves (Mark 12:29-31).
Authentic Community
True North Vineyard Church is a family. We love, we have fun, and though we may have disagreements, we strive to walk through them with humility and respect for one another. At True North, we're not fake people. We want to live authentic Christian lives, but we are also human. Our goal is to love and serve each other, but we also know that we may accidentally hurt people in the process. We are all humans, with human frailty, seeking to serve our King and our family the best we can.
We believe that an authentic community is one that loves and pursues deep relationships with others. But, like every deep relationship, comes vulnerability and the possibility of being hurt. We stress, however, that this is healthy and a part of authentic living. You become our family, and we become yours. Together, we will grow and be mature in the Lord (Ephesian 4:11-16)
